Deleted scene from The Avengers. { x }

I’m gonna be critical for one minute. There is no reason—none—that this kid couldn’t have been a little girl, or a POC kid. There is no reason—none—that the little boy, Jack, who Peter Parker saves from the burning car in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), could not have been a little Asian boy or a little Latina girl. There is NO REASON that this little kid in the gifset above, wearing red, white, and blue, couldn’t have been a little black kid—maybe hinting at Eli Bradley aka Patriot.

It’s bad enough that the majority of all superheroes are straight white men. Stop giving us adorable little white boys, as if they somehow represent all children who look up to heroes.

As if a little POC kid or a little white or POC girl could not possibly tug on our heartstrings to the same degree as a little white boy.

(ETA: Also, at the end of Captain America, you see a bunch of small boys playing Cap and the Howling Commandos, and a few of the boys are African-American. But you’ll notice how the camera frames and focuses on the one little white boy who is the leader and playing Cap. The camera never shows us the faces of the African-American boys. Also, no girls.

At least in Iron Man, the boy in Gulmira that Tony saves is a POC and presumably Muslim, and in IM2 the kid Tony saves could be a girl or a boy—the kid’s wearing a helmet and you technically can’t tell the gender. I suspect the child actor was male, though.)

plot-insight:

Black Widow has never been so clearly rattled by anything as the prospect of going up against the Hulk. As an espionage agent, her modus operandi is to manipulate her targets into underestimating her and then revealing their plans to her in their own overconfidence—a move that works well against Russian gangsters, Asgardian Norse gods, and genius billionaire playboy philanthropists alike. In actual combat, Natasha is a master of human-level martial arts and firearms. And the Hulk terrifies her because none of her tactics work on him. The Hulk can’t be manipulated or reasoned with, and worse, his actions are completely unpredictable. Guns don’t work on him, nor hand-to-hand combat without superhuman power. No wonder she’s freaked out by him even as a seasoned agent: her only option is to run like hell. Her eventual acceptance of Hulk/Banner as a teammate is arguably the bravest thing she does in the movie.

Do you know what I like the most here? They’re women and they ARE NOT wearing super sexualized leather clothes or posing in impossible ways.
And, of course, the Captain America 40’s hair.
